SIMC Welcomes Second Batch of Japan Specialist Mediators in May 2023
SIMC Specialist Mediators Workshop Tokyo, 19-20 May 2023
On May 19 and 20, SIMC conducted its second Specialist Mediators Workshop of 2023, in Tokyo, Japan. This workshop was led by Professor Joel Lee, Chairman of the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI), George Lim SC, Chairman of Singapore International Mediation Centre(SIMC), and Chuan Wee Meng, CEO of SIMC.
We were delighted to have a conscientiously selected group of 17 experienced legal and business professionals from different regions of Japan attending this workshop. They went through a customized, rigorous, and intensive 2-day workshop at the premises of JIDRC-Tokyo.
With the guidance and direction of Professor Joel Lee, George Lim SC, and Chuan Wee Meng, participants were equipped with an appreciation of different dispute resolution paradigms, acquiring the ability and understanding of the fundamental building blocks of interest-based dispute resolution.
The newly trained mediators will be empanelled on July 6 and attend the special event co-organized by SIMC, SIAC and SICC at the upcoming ASEAN-Japan Special Meeting of Justice Ministers. which happens on the same day. The special event will be graced by Singapore’s Second Minister of Law, Mr. Edwin Tong SC.
The empanelment brings the total number of SIMC’s Specialist Mediators to 278. Together, they represent a diverse group of senior professionals comprising 12 nationalities and expertise spanning over 17 different industry sectors across seven jurisdictions.
