SIMC inks MOU with the Permanent Forum of China Construction Law (PFCCL) to promote mediation for infrastructure-related disputes
SHANGHAI (October 12, 2019)—The Singapore International Mediation Centre on Saturday, October 12, 2019 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Permanent Forum of China Construction Law (PFCCL) to promote mediation for infrastructure-related disputes.
The MOU was inked between Chair-on-Duty of PFCCL Ms Wang Weijun and SIMC CEO Mr Chuan Wee Meng at the 2019 PFCCL Annual Conference. The partnership brings both parties’ expertise in construction law and mediation respectively. It aims to strengthen China’s construction industry and its users by providing a more sustainable, amicable means of conflict resolution.
SIMC is the first foreign member and also the first foreign organisation to seal a partnership with the PFCCL.

Under the terms of the MOU, SIMC and PFCCL will work together to promote mediation for the construction industry and its users in China.

SIMC CEO Mr Chuan Wee Meng said, “With the Singapore Convention on Mediation, international mediated settlement agreements can now be recognised and enforced across jurisdictions that have signed (and ratified) the Convention. With SIMC’s experience and expertise in international mediation, I look forward to working with PFCCL to support users of mediation in China.”

PFCCL Chair-on-Duty Ms Wang Weijun said, “With globalisation, there is a need for international disputes to be settled effectively, quickly, and have mediated settlement agreements that are enforceable. This partnership offers a platform for both organisations to cooperate on an international level, as well as to promote mediation as a preferred means for disputes in the construction industry.”
