SIMC Clarifies Criteria for Serving on its Panel of Mediators
Our International Mediators
The Singapore International Mediation Centre enjoyed an 85 per cent settlement rate in 2017, significantly higher than the global average of 70 per cent. This accomplishment is largely credited to our mediators’ excellent problem-solving skills.
Our panel of international mediators is strategically crafted to ensure appropriate representation from diverse jurisdictions and industries, including construction, finance, IT, energy, commodities, insurance, and healthcare. They are based in more than 24 jurisdictions that practise common and civil law traditions.
We can support mediations conducted in several languages including English, Mandarin, Hindi, Tamil, Bahasa, Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish. Required Skills and Experience
Each year, SIMC receives numerous applications from eminent and capable mediators from all over the world to serve on our panel. All applications undergo a strict selection process and are reviewed for skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the users of SIMC’s mediation services.
To be considered for empanelment, candidates must:
- Provide the following information:
- Any existing independent accreditation (e.g. IMI, SIMI)
- Independently verified records (e.g. through a mediation institution) of:
- A minimum of 50 commercial mediations or 400 hours of mediation practice in the last three years preceding the application, at least 20 per cent of which should have a cross-border element.
- A settlement rate of over 80 per cent.
- Three positive user testimonials
- Pay a non-refundable application fee of SGD500. (Do note that payment does not guarantee appointment.)
Application Deadline
The application deadline each year closes on 31 August. It is the candidate’s sole responsibility to ensure that all supporting documents are submitted at the time of the application. Only complete applications which meet the above criteria will be considered for review by the SIMC Appointments Committee. The SIMC Appointments Committee sits once a year, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome in December. All decisions by the Appointments Committee are final.
