Bridging Borders: SIMC’s Highlights from Korea and the Seoul ADR Festival
SIMC recently wrapped up a fulfilling week in Korea and at the annual Seoul ADR Festival, engaging in meaningful discussions, reconnecting with partners, and participating in impactful events. The highlight of the week was the announcement by Korea’s Minister for Justice, Mr. Park Sung-jae, regarding upcoming legislation to ratify the Singapore Convention on Mediation. This significant move underscores the growing recognition of mediation as an essential tool for dispute resolution.
Our CEO, Mr. Chuan Wee Meng, contributed to the discussions with a session titled “Navigating Singapore’s Legal Landscape,” organized by Focus Law Asia LLC. Alongside Shem Khoo, Mimi Anh, and Rachel Hiyoung Son, the session delved into key trends and challenges in cross-border mediation.
Another standout event was our hands-on workshop, “Tools for a Successful Mediation and Latest Trends,” conducted in collaboration with Jin Hee Kim from Jipyong. The session featured a roleplay exercise, offering attendees practical insights and strategies for mediation success.
Our collaboration with Yulchon LLC resulted in an engaging seminar on “Why Mediate Commercial Disputes: Innovations, Global Trends, and Success Stories.” This discussion, co-presented by Eun Nyung Lee, explored how mediation is shaping the future of dispute resolution worldwide.
We also had the opportunity to present “An Introduction to International Mediation at SIMC” to the management team at Brown & Watson International, highlighting SIMC’s role in supporting cross-border business disputes.
In between sessions, we connected with esteemed partners, including Kim & Chang, Peter & Kim, Lee & Ko, and Jipyong. A special highlight was celebrating Peter & Kim’s 5th anniversary at their K-Arts Concert, where we witnessed their rebranding and new logo reveal. Congratulations to our board member, Kap-You (Kevin) Kim, and the Peter & Kim team on this milestone!
As we reflect on this productive week, we are grateful for the opportunity to share knowledge, deepen relationships, and contribute to the advancement of mediation. We look forward to continuing these conversations and furthering collaboration in the ADR community.
