7 and 9 September 2015

The Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) represented by Chairman Edwin Glasgow QC, CEO Ms Lim Seok Hui and Deputy CEO Ms Eunice Chua were in Delhi and Mumbai, India from 7-9 September 2015 to take part in a series of events organised by the Singapore Ministry of Law aimed at creating awareness of the complete suite of dispute resolution options in Singapore.

In an afternoon seminar entitled “Singapore: Leading Asia in Dispute Resolution”, representatives from the three flagship international dispute resolution institutions in Singapore – the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), and SIMC outlined the key features of the three institutions and their services before engaging the audience with a lively panel discussion moderated by Thio Shen Yi SC, President of the Law Society of Singapore. Questions largely centred around the relationships between the three dispute resolution organisations, the enforceability of outcomes (whether SICC judgments, SIAC awards, or SIMC mediated settlement agreements) in India and unique features of the three organisations, such as SIAC and SIMC’s Arb-Med-Arb service.

The keynote address for the seminar was given by the Honourable Justice Quentin Loh in Delhi and by the Honourable the Chief Justice of Singapore Sundaresh Menon in Mumbai to audiences of more than 120 in both cities.

Following the afternoon seminar, the Law Society of Singapore hosted a cocktail and dinner for the Indian Bar, which allowed some of the discussions and conversations sparked by the afternoon seminar to continue over drinks and food. SICC, SIAC and SIMC also set up exhibition booths on the sidelines of the dinner to share more detailed information with interested enquirers.

SIMC would like to thank the Singapore Ministry of Law and the Law Society of Singapore for their efforts in organising the successful events.

SIMC was also in Bangalore for a mediation seminar on 10 September, which you can read more about here.
