The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), an independent, non-profit organisation was established in 1991 to meet the demands of the international business community for a neutral, efficient and reliable dispute resolution institution in Asia. SIAC is today one of the most recognised and preferred institutions for international arbitration in the world.

Together with SIAC and the Singapore International Commercial Court, SIMC will form part of a complete suite of dispute resolution services that Singapore offers to the region and the world.

SIAC and SIMC have further collaborated to offer an arb-med-arb service. Under the SIAC-SIMC Arb-Med-Arb Protocol, the arbitrator(s) and the mediator(s) will be separately and independently appointed by SIAC and SIMC respectively, under the applicable arbitration rules and mediation rules of each Centre. Unless the parties otherwise agree, the arbitrator(s) and the mediator(s) will generally be different persons.

Established in 1997, the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) pioneered the use of mediation as the mainstream mechanism for dispute resolution, as well as training in negotiation and conflict management. Today, SMC offers a suite of alternative dispute resolution services which brings clarity and objectivity to complex situations. These services include mediation, neutral evaluation and domain name dispute resolution. Through SMC’s panel of professional mediators with legal and industry expertise, SMC is well-placed to manage difficult negotiations and unlock standstills for businesses by providing cost-effective and timely solutions. SMC’s vision is to help all businesses fully appreciate the value of mediation as a strategic risk-management tool that they can count on in commercial dealings.

SIMC will work together with SMC to promote and offer mediation services, with SMC focusing on domestic disputes and SIMC focusing on international commercial disputes.
